Recent work: Roomtemp

Roomtemp is the new lifestyle blog of event planner Moshe Aeylon. Sometimes, but not very often, the best solution can be to build off of an existing WordPress theme. In this case, in conjunction with the KRD team, we felt that the PixelPower theme had enough bang for our buck regarding built-in functionality and would also allow the level of design customization necessary to satisfy all of our needs and the client’s requirements for the site.

As you can see in the design layouts, we went through a couple short iterations and logotype considerations before landing on the ideal solution. The backbone of the design became the use of great photography and a fantastic workhorse type family that has quickly become one of my all-time faves: Proxima Nova by Mark Simonson, served up via Typekit. The use of these genuinely high-quality webfonts throughout the site provided a truly custom feel to an otherwise generic-looking theme and laid the groundwork for a strong brand to emerge.

The first layout seemed a bit too heavy overall, so we headed in the direction with more whitespace and a monster header. The second logotype direction (work of James MacWhirter) worked out well as we proceeded — the modern look of the word Room mixed in with the red-hot and stylish script for temp gave us that extra bit of flair we were looking for.
